Training & Accreditation
I am a Doctor of Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy and a clinical supervisor. I work as a Psychologist and clinical supervisor in the public sector in addition to running a private practice in Dublin city centre. I completed my degree and Masters in the 1990s and early 2000s and began my doctoral training in 2006.
I am a chartered member of both the Psychological Society of Ireland (No.M10595C) and the British Psychological Society (No:43021). I am also a full member of the PSI’s specialist register for psychologists specializing in psychotherapy and I am registered with the European Association of Psychotherapy (with the European Certificate of Psychotherapy).
I recently trained as an EMDR therapist at the EMDR Institute. EMDR (eye movement desensitisation & processing) is a recommended treatment for traumatic or difficult experiences by the World Health Organisation, The American Psychiatric Association, the (US) Department of Defence and Department of Veterans Affairs and the NICE guidelines.
By creating an open and trustworthy relationship in the therapy, both the client and I are better able to explore their difficulties, highlight how they may have become stuck, and offer them workable solutions to making key changes happen. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix; therapy is a process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and therapist alike. But in the end, learning to notice and cope with feelings of sadness, fear, anger and pain, and making small changes to self-defeating behaviour can bring life-altering results.
Experience & Areas of Interest
I love supporting individuals to work through a wide variety of difficulties. These include traumatic experiences and self-esteem, anxiety and mood difficulties, relationship and food and body related problems.
I speak at conferences and events on the areas on mental health. Previously on infant and parent mental health and currently on two areas; the development of a new mental health programme in the education sector as well as the impact of menopause on mental health.
