Training & Accreditation
Hello,
I am a Doctor of Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy and an Associate
Fellow with the BPS. I am a Chartered Psychologist with the PSI and BPS. I am quite
experienced, having done an initial training in counselling in 1996 and later awarded the
European Certificate of Psychotherapy in 2012. I work as a therapist and supervisor in the
public and private sector having trained as a Clinical Supervisor at DCU.
I really love to support people in working through their difficulties which may present in a
range of ways including overwhelm, anxiety, low mood, relationship problems and self-
esteem. There is always a reason for everything and we will work hard together to work this
out and find a better way forward.
I also have a special interest in disordered eating and body and I work with individuals and
groups to help them to develop healthy relationships with food and body. People in larger
bodies are particularly welcome. The ‘Health at Every Size ‘framework is used to support an
inclusive, respectful and empowering environment for all.
Approach
By creating an open and trustworthy relationship in the therapy, both the client and I are better able to explore their difficulties, highlight how they may have become stuck, and offer them workable solutions to making key changes happen. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix; therapy is a process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and therapist alike. But in the end, learning to notice and cope with feelings of sadness, fear, anger and pain, and making small changes to self-defeating behaviour can bring life-altering results.
Experience & Areas of Interest
I love supporting individuals to work through a wide variety of difficulties. These include traumatic experiences and self-esteem, anxiety and mood difficulties, relationship and food and body related problems.
I speak at conferences and events on the areas on mental health. Previously on infant and parent mental health and currently on two areas; the development of a new mental health programme in the education sector as well as the impact of menopause on mental health.
