Training & Accreditation
Hello, my name is Dil (pronouns: she/they) and I am an IACP accredited psychotherapist and counsellor and have been practising since 2020. I began my psychotherapy training in 2018 starting with my BA in Counselling and Psychotherapy, then I obtained a Diploma in Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity Therapy and completed a Certificate in Intimate Partner Therapy.
I work with individuals and I am also a relationship therapist and last year I began my training (MSc) in Child & Adolescent psychotherapy thereby paving the way to begin my work with children, adolescents and their parents.
I have a special interest in intersectionality, gender and sexual diversities. I work with those identifying as LGBTQI+, and those in same-sex and non-traditional relationships. I practice in accordance with the guidelines and Code of Ethics of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP)
My training as an individual and relationship therapist enables me to work with parents of children and teenagers, and I strongly believe in the importance of therapeutic support for parents as a foundation for meaningful and lasting change. When parents are given space to reflect, feel supported, and deepen their understanding of their child’s inner world, positive shifts often begin to unfold naturally within the family.
For some families — particularly those with younger children — parent support on its own may be enough to meet their therapeutic goals. For others, it can create the stability, connection, and clarity that helps child or adolescent therapy become more effective, whether alongside parent work or at a later stage.
Approach
I feel grateful to do this work as I’m deeply interested in people, relationships, and human growth. I bring a wealth of lived experience, authenticity and warmth to the therapeutic space, along with a grounded understanding of development and an openness to the deeper, more relational, and reflective parts of healing.
I hope to support you, your relationship, your child or your adolescent in a way that feels safe, compassionate, and truly helpful.
Experience & Areas of Interest
I have had a longstanding passion and interest in social justice and mental health. Since my arrival in Ireland I have been an activist, campaigner, journalist and broadcaster. My interest in mental health began when I experienced mental health difficulties in 2006 and reached out for support. I experienced first-hand how the services in Ireland lacked awareness in the importance of creating an inclusive therapeutic space.
As a response to the lack of service I founded Insight Matters in 2011 with Anne Marie, with the view to provide inclusive, accessible and affordable mental health support.
In 2014 I was honoured with the Frederick Douglas Award as part of the Lord Mayor’s Awards for my outstanding contribution to Dublin civic life.
In 2015 along with 9 other inspiring women I was given the Irish Tatler Woman of the Year Award for my work as a Marriage Equality campaigner.
